Emotions are tricky. When my feelings are ugly I crave a volume dial for my brain, that turns down the sensitivity and turns up the numbness. I am a particularly emotive human, readily feeling, embracing and expressing my emotions. I was thinking that it must be a less complicated life for those who are able to control the volume and don’t easily or deeply connect with feelings. In the middle of my plight of wanting to disown all the feels, tone down the empathy and give fewer shits, life served up this moment 📸 caught by @marmar0802 while intertwined in an emotional experience evoked by @kobrastreetart . Surprise! 🎉 caught @janiceearle26 off guard and showed up unannounced to celebrate Mother’s day. Close family members and friends approached me this week to express concern around some of my behaviors. The constructive criticism wasn’t easy to swallow and I’m still digesting it. What they said is that at times, in the words of the great @shenseea “mi attitude stink like baygon.” 😬 Then today I stumbled upon this quote from @shannonowenspdc and it was a timely reminder that receiving tough feedback is one of the ways we grow. “A strong woman accepts both compliments and criticism graciously, knowing it takes both sun and rain for a flower to grow.” Blessed to have people in my life who care enough to tell me allllll about myself and love me same way 🌻 [side-note: none of the people who approached me this week are pictured here, but this snack pack knows the attitude described firsthand and like others of you have stuck by me none-the-less].
